Faculty & Staff Reporting

Instructional Workload

Background

The Instructional Workload Site has moved, the new URL is iws.umd.edu. The system was designed to comply with the Board of Regents Faculty Workload guidelines. It reports workload information including the instructional activities of faculty by individual, department, and college to administrators. It allows for online verification of information for faculty teaching and expected loads based on definitions and guidelines provided by the University System of Maryland, Board of Regents' Faculty Workload Policy and annual reporting requirements.

Many reports are available in aggregate for the university and for your unit. After the data are captured and verified, the data are reported Provost, the System, the Board of Regents and to the State Legislature.

Outside Professional Activities (OPA)

Background

Outside Professional Activities (OPA) reports (on ARES) are collected annually from faculty and exempt staff for compliance with the University of Maryland's policy on Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment. All faculty and exempt staff will complete the form online by going to www.ares.umd.edu and clicking in the Quick Links box on the right side of the page, Outside Professional Activities (OPA) reports. For more information, go to the University Policy on Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment.

Faculty Activity Report (FAR)

Background

FAR was a consolidated IRPA faculty workload report, reporting for the Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment policy, and faculty reviews. Each college had a FAR contact who coordinated the implementation process and fields questions from users. In January 2015, TTK faculty were moved to Lyterati for reporting, in January 2016 all faculty appointments were moved to Lyterati. Lyterati was discontinued at the end of June 2016. A new tool is being procured and will be administered through Faculty Affairs. For faculty who need info from the 2 deprecated systems. Contact your college for Lyterati data. You should have access to your FAR data in the OPA system.

Historic FAR reports and views continue to be available on the FAR site.

Administrator Access

Faculty and academic administrators involved in the tenure and promotion process, and other administrators addressing the needs of their academic department, can receive limited access rights to results with appropriate permission (e.g. from the dean's designee). These approved individuals are allowed to log into the password-protected system and view the appropriate results as determined by the University. No unauthorized faculty or administrators can view evaluation results. If you have a question about administrator access, contact the FAR contact for your college (listed below) or go the Admin Manual link on the FAR Administrators' pages. It is located on the upper right-hand side of the Admin home page.
